Carl Icahn Seeking Buyers For Shuttered Facility: Report

The shuttered Trump Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City is on the market.

Carl Icahn, who acquired the casino that still bears President Donald Trump’s brand name through bankruptcy court, said that he is going to walk away from the property. There was speculation that he could reopen the casino sometime in 2017.

The iconic casino closed its doors on Oct. 10 amid a labor dispute.

New Jersey lawmakers passed a bill that would have prevented Icahn from reopening the property without a union contract, a measure that Gov. Chris Christie vetoed Monday, according to a report from the Associated Press.

“This bill represents the Legislature at its worst,” Christie said. “It is a transparent attempt to punish the owner of the Taj Mahal casino for making the business decision to close its doors after its union employees went on strike and refused to negotiate in good faith.”

About 3,000 people lost their jobs when the casino closed.

Despite the veto, the billionaire investor said he’s looking to sell the casino.

Ichan attacked New Jersey Senate president Steve Sweeney, who pushed the vetoed bill, in comments this week, saying that even though the bill was vetoed the legislative efforts have “done irreversible damage to Atlantic City in particular and New Jersey in general.”
