Colorado Prisons Hope Poker Cards Can Help Solve Cold Cases: ReportMany States Across Country Implementing Card Program |
|
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is using a unique way to try to get inmates to provide information on unsolved murders and other violent crimes in the state.
9news.com reports that the state has issued playing cards to its prisons with information about cold cases printed on the front of them. Some 1,700 cold cases are on the cards. Each card has info on one unsolved crime, with a photo of the victim.
There are no plans to make the cards available to the public, the report said.
Similar initiatives have been implemented in South Carolina and Connecticut. According to Slate.com, at least 17 states have tried the card program since 2005.
The programs were inspired by the cards showing members of Saddam Hussein’s regime that were used by U.S. troops during the Iraq war, according to Slate.
