Sherman Wu Wins Mid-States Poker Tour Bally's Black Hawk Showdown Main Event

602-Entry Turnout Builds $586,320 Prize Pool, With Wu Earning $123,059 As The Champion

The 2024 Mid-States Poker Tour Bally’s Black Hawk Showdown Series $1,100 buy-in $300,000 guaranteed no-limit hold’em main event attracted a field of 602 total entries, nearly doubling its guarantee in the process. The $586,320
final prize pool was paid out among the top 65 finishers, with the largest share going to eventual champion Sherman Wu. The Boulder, CO resident earned $123,059 for the win. This was his first recorded cash in a MSPT tournament.

Wu also earned 840 Card Player Player of the Year points, enough to move him to 652nd place in the 2024 POY standings presented by Global Poker.

The final day of this tournament began with the 65 in-the-money finishers returning to Bally’s Casino in Black Hawk in order to play down to a champion.

We was among the big stacks to start, having bagged up the second-largest stack on the third and final starting flight for this event. By the time the final table was set, Wu sat in fourth chip position.

Wu’s pocket kings held against the open-ended straight draw of Corey Dodd (7th – $18,108) to earn him his first knockout at the final table. He also had A-2 suited beat 9-8 for Matthew Rice (5th – $31,007) to continue his climb up the leaderboard.

Vladas Tamasauskas picked up pocket kings against the pocket queens of Thomas Fuller (4th – $40,974). He then saw his pocket queens hold facing the pocket sixes of Paul Gibbons (3rd – $55,046) to give the Lithuanian the chip lead going into heads-up play.

Yu had edged his way in front ahead of the final hand. The chips all got in with Wu holding 9Diamond Suit8Diamond Suit facing the 2Spade Suit2Heart Suit of Tamasauskas. The board ran out JDiamond Suit6Club Suit5Heart SuitASpade Suit7Club Suit and Wu rivered a straight to secure the victory.

Tamasauskas walked away with $75,538 as the runner-up. He now has nearly $3.2 million in recorded tournament earnings to his name.
