Las Vegas Strip area poker rooms raked a combined $5.59 million from cash games last month, according to figures released by regulators on Tuesday.
The amount was 1.2 percent worse than February 2016, but there was one extra day last year due to the leap year. There were 20 poker rooms with a combined 273 tables on or around the state’s main casino corridor last month. There were 306 tables in February 2016.
Strip area poker rooms shed 33 tables in February in a year-over-year comparison.
The Las Vegas poker scene will shrink to 19 rooms when the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip closes its eight-table room in April.
In 2007, which was the height of the poker boom in Nevada in terms of market size ($168 million), there were 26 poker rooms on or around the Las Vegas Strip.
Statewide poker revenue of $8.83 million last month was 1.6 percent off year-over-year. There were 67 poker rooms with a combined 600 tables across the Silver State. The number of poker tables fluctuates based on the month, especially during the summer.
About a quarter of Nevada casinos have poker rooms.
Online poker revenue is included in the figures, but state regulators don’t give a breakdown between live and online play. However, it is known that Nevada’s poker market is worth about $7 million annually. So, about $580,000 a month.
For comparison, New Jersey’s online poker revenue was $2.17 million in February.
Over the last 12 months, statewide Nevada poker revenue of $117.12 million was a 0.90 percent decline compared to the same period a year prior.
