Americans To Bet $36.5B On Baseball This YearNearly All Wagers Will Come Outside Nevada |

Americans will wager $36.5 billion on MLB games this year.
That’s according to research from the American Gaming Association, the casino industry’s leading lobbying group on Capitol Hill.
According to the AGA, 97 percent of that total will come outside of Nevada’s licensed and regulated sports books. The Silver State is the only jurisdiction in the nation with traditional sports betting thanks to a 1992 federal law.
The AGA is trying to convince Congress to repeal or amend that antiquated statute.
“The amount wagered illegally on professional baseball is another sign the federal ban on sports betting has become an utter failure,” said Geoff Freeman, AGA president and CEO.
“It’s time for Washington to stop depriving states of critical tax revenue and allow them to reap the rewards of a regulated market.”
Nevada casinos won $32.2 million on baseball last year, on total wagers of $1.05 billion. The handle was an all-time high.
Football ($1.69 billion) and basketball ($1.4 billion) are more popular.
