Summer is fast approaching and you know what that means: the poker world will soon once again congregate in Las Vegas for the biggest festival of the tournament calendar, the World Series of Poker (running from May 3 – July 17). Although it is the world’s largest poker tournament series, the WSOP is far from the only game in town, as several Las Vegas poker hot spots host their own festivals in town. There will be hundreds of fantastic tournaments for local and visiting poker aficionados to enter outside of the Rio. Card Player is here to bring you a look at the best of the rest of that Las Vegas has to offer this summer with the biggest events of each summer series. The Venetian Las Vegas is once again hosting the 2017 DeepStack Extravaganza III, which has grown this year to an 110-event series boasting more than $21 million in guaranteed prize pools running from May 15 – July 23. The gigantic slate of events has something for every player, but the centerpiece of the whole affair is the four-day, $5,000 buy-in Card Player Poker Tour no-limit hold’em main event that once again features a $2 million guarantee.
The Card Player reporting team will be on hand to bring you live updates on all of the action. The CPPT main event has two starting flights on July 17 and 18 at noon. The DeepStack Extravaganza series is one of the most popular poker festivals in the world with a little something for everyone with buy-ins starting as low as $200 and going as high as $10,000. Outside of no-limit hold’em events you will also find Omaha eight-or-better, pot-limit Omaha and Big O. There are also variations like turbos and bounty tournaments. Players staying at the property qualify for special room rates.
The Planet Hollywood poker room is hosting its own massive series this summer. The festival is so large, in fact, that it’s called the Goliath Phamous Poker Series. Running from May 25 through July 13 the series sports more than $7.5 million in guarantees with buy-ins ranging from $130 up to $5,000. The centerpiece of the summer for this series is the $2,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event that sports a huge $2 million guarantee and will run from June 27 – July 1. In 2016 the main event, which was a $1,650 buy-in, drew an incredible 2,332 entries. There are two other events on schedule with seven-figure guarantees.
The Bellagio Cup will celebrate its 13th anniversary in 2017. Once again the short but action-packed festival will run in one of the game’s most storied poker rooms: the Bellagio Poker Room.
The $10,400 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event is set to kick off on Friday, July 14 at noon. This special event allows registration for the first 12 levels of play—closing at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 16. Last year’s main event drew 268 entrants, with Kuljinder Sidhu coming out on top with the title and the first-place prize of $599,400.
Wynn Las Vegas is once again hosting a Wynn Summer Classic series, with more than $5 million in guarantees and 36 events on offer from June 2 – July 16. The $1 million guaranteed $1,600 no-limit hold’em main event will run from July 4 – 8, with the two starting days each beginning at noon.
At Aria, The Aria Poker Classic is also returning for 2017 with a beefed-up schedule. The focus of the series, which runs from Jun. 2 – Jul. 9, is the WPT500 Aria. The $565 buy-in no-limit hold’em event sports a $1 million guaranteed prize pool and nine starting flights, with the event running from June 26 – July 5. The room will also host 17 separate $25,000, $50,000 and $100,000 high roller events peppered throughout the summer for the high-stakes crowd.
Away from the strip there are several more notable poker series on offer this summer. The Golden Nugget is once again hosting its Grand Poker Series, an 84-event tournament festival running from May 30 – July 3. The highlight is a $500,000 guaranteed $570 buy-in event that kicks off with the first of two starting days beginning at 11 AM on June 29.
Binion’s Hotel and Casino was the birthplace of the World Series of Poker was in downtown Las Vegas, and they are set to continue hosting great poker events this year with their Dog Days of Summer Poker Jam running from June 2 – July 4. The centerpiece of the festival is a $200,000 guaranteed $850 buy-in no-limit hold’em event that kicks off on June 25.
