British poker pro Stephen Chidwick outlasted a field of 122 entries to win the 2017 PokerStars Championship Barcelona €25,500 single-day high roller. For the win the 28-year-old earned €690,400 ($814,672 USD).
“It’s fantastic. It’s my best result,” Chidwick told PokerStars reporters after coming out on top.
This was indeed the largest tournament cash of his poker career, and it brought his lifetime live tournament earnings to more than $8.8 million. That puts him second on the English all-time money lsit behind only Sam Trickett.
Chidwick had plenty of tough competition to deal with, including current Card Player Player of the Year race leader Bryn Kenney. The American poker pro was fresh off a seventh-place finish in the €50,000 super high roller. This was his sixteenth final table finish of 2017. The 700 Player of the Year points he earned gave him an iron grip on the top spot of the POY leaderboard, which is presented in 2017 by the Commerce Hotel and Casino.
Other notables who final tabled this event include Igor Yaroshevskyy (3rd – $357,776), Isaac Haxton (4th – $296,298), Adrian Mateos (7th – $144,078) and Vladimir Troyanovsky (8th – $108,489).
