The 2017 World Poker Tour Legends of Poker $4,000 no-limit hold’em main event kicks off this Friday, August 25. The Bicycle Hotel & Casino is hosting the 16th annual running of this televised WPT tournament, which begins with the first of three starting flights at noon. Players who are eliminated during Day 1A, 1B, or 1C may re-enter the following day. The event runs Aug. 25 – 31.
The final table of this event will be filmed and is scheduled to air in May 2018 on FOX Sports Regional Networks. Players who are unable to bag chips during one of the three starting flights may also buy-in before the start of Day 2.
Players participating in day 1A will have a chance to sit at the table at the table from 14-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, who will be playing that starting flight. Hellmuth and Antonio Esfandiari were both involved in promoting the Legends of Poker series this year. Hellmuth was also recently announced as the new host of the WPT Raw Deal segment, part of the TV broadcast of each episode.
Pat Lyons took down the 2016 running of the Legends of Poker main event, defeating a field of 687 entries to win his first WPT title and the first-place prize of $615,346. Turnout for this event grew by 15.8 percent year-over-year, up from 593 entries in 2015. 2016 was the first year that the event took place after the seven-story, 117,907 square-foot boutique luxury hotel addition opened on Dec. 1, 2015.
