The 63 poker rooms across the state of Nevada generated $8.56 million in revenue from cash games in August, according to figures posted this week by state casino gaming regulators.
The revenue was a four percent increase year-over-year. According to data compiled by UNLV’s Center for Gaming Research, that was the largest uptick compared to the same month the previous year since July 2016, when poker revenue increased 7.6 percent.
Through the first eight months of 2017, Nevada poker revenue has fallen year-over-year in four and grown in four. According to the state figures, poker revenue over the last 12 months (9/1/16 to 8/31/17) was $117.9 million, just two-tenths of a percentage point more than the same period the previous year.
There were 603 tables between the 63 rooms in August. In August 2016 there were 655 tables between 67 rooms. The rooms to close in the past year include those at Strip casinos Luxor, Monte Carlo and Hard Rock. However, a room at Westgate Las Vegas reopened in early August after a two-year hiatus.
Poker on the Strip
The poker gains seen in August were more pronounced on the Strip, the Silver State’s main casino corridor. Rake of $5.3 million was 5.7 percent more than what was generated in August 2016. The Strip accounted for 62 percent of statewide poker cash game revenue. There were 18 poker rooms with a combined 285 tables in the area.
Revenue over the past 12 months was $78.3 million, about a 0.5 percent increase year-over-year.
