Sam Greenwood had an incredible last week on the live tournament circuit. From November 19 – 25 the Canadian poker pro made three major final tables at the 2017 Caribbean Poker Party Festival at the Melia Caribe Tropical in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Greenwood cashed for more than $1,350,000 along the way, finishing in third place or higher in each of the three events. He capped off his impressive run by taking down the Caribbean Poker Party $5,300 MILLIONS Main Event, defeating a field of 1,061 entries to capture the title and the first-place prize of $1,000,000.

Greenwood also earned 1,920 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win. This was his seventh final table finish of the year and his largest cash of 2017. His runner-up showing in the $25,500 super high roller event this week earned him another $242,750 and 350 points, while his third-place score in the $10,000 high roller added another $124,100 and 400 points. With 3,650 total points and $2,115,757 in year-to-date earnings, Greenwood has climbed into 18th place on the overall Player of the Year leaderboard, which is presented in 2017 by the Commerce Casino & Hotel.

“It was just crazy, I don’t think I have ever run this good,” Greenwood told Party Poker LIVE reporters about his huge week. “I won so many all ins and I’m happy with how well I played. In the high rollers, it was more of a steady climb but in the main, I was all in so many times.”

Greenwood entered the final day of this event as the chip leader with 12 players remaining, but he encountered some setbacks along the way to the title. In fact, at one point he was down to only 2.5 big blinds at the final table after running a big bluff and getting called by Andrey Shatilov. Greenwood was able to mount a comeback, though, doubling up several times to put himself back in contention. Greenwood knocked out Preben Stokkan in sixth place ($150,000) and Jonas Gjelstad in third place ($450,000) to set up a heads-up showdown with Shatilov.

Greenwood began at a 3-to-2 disadvantage but was able to wrest the lead away from his opponent by the time the final hand was dealt. With blinds of 6 million 12 million Greenwood raised to 24 million from the button holding the KHeart SuitKDiamond Suit and Shatilov defended his big blind with the 9Club Suit8Club Suit. The flop brought the 8Spade Suit6Spade Suit4Heart Suit and Shatilov check-called a bet of 20 million. The 3Diamond Suit hit the turn and Greenwood bet out 100 million. Shatilov moved all-in for 362 million total with his top pair on the board and Greenwood quickly called with his overpair. The 5Diamond Suit on the river secured the pot and the title for Greenwood, while Shatilov was elimianted in second place ($650,000).
