PokerStars has landed one of the biggest sharks in the poker industry. Today, it announced that it signed Daniel Negreanu as a member of Team PokerStars.
"I've enjoyed a long personal relationship with the folks at PokerStars since the company's founding in 2001 and have always felt as though PokerStars fully understood what players wanted: lots of tournaments, lots of variety, and great software,'' said Daniel Negreanu though a press release. "I'm very excited about joining Team PokerStars. The organization seems like the perfect fit for me and I'm glad they feel the same way."
A press conference is set to take place at the Rio at 11 a.m. PT.
He joins 18 other players, among them three of the last four World Series of Poker champions (Greg Raymer, Joe Hachem, and Chris Moneymaker), tournament and high-stakes superstar Barry Greenstein, Humberto Brenes, Steve Paul-Ambrose, Vanessa Rousso, former WSOP champ Tom McEvoy.
Negreanu, who recently left the job as spokesman for Full Contact Poker, will be bringing his protégé promotion over with him. More details should emerge from the press conference. Check back to CardPlayer.com later today for more details.
A spokesman for PokerStars said Negreanu is a perfect fit for the company. He said before Negreanu was offered a contract, marketing studies were done in all of its markets, and even the folks at PokerStars were surprised to learn that Negreanu's image and personality tested the same in all the markets: People simply like him.
Update: It was clarified at the press conference what will happen to Full Contact Poker and its players. As of today, all players at FCP will have their accounts transfered to PokerStars. If FCP players do not have a PokerStars account, they will receive an email explaining to them how to open one and have their dollars transferred.
