Last month was a mouth-watering 28 days for Las Vegas’ baccarat tables.

The 355 baccarat tables on or around the iconic Strip casino corridor generated $176.3 million in winnings in February, according to state figures released Wednesday. That was a whopping 82 percent increase compared to the $96.6 million won off gamblers during February 2017.

Last month saw $1.25 billion bet at baccarat, up a whopping $463.8 million (60 percent increase) compared to the $787.2 million bet at the tables in February 2017.

The Chinese New Year was reportedly the reason.

“As expected, due to the shift in the calendar for Chinese New Year, this February was much stronger than last February due to Chinese New Year falling in January of last year,” Michael Lawton, senior research analyst for the Gaming Control Board, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Baccarat has struggled lately despite last month’s performance. Over the past 12 months, Strip baccarat revenue of $1.17 billion was down nearly six percent compared to the same period a year prior. Nearly 99 percent of statewide baccarat win comes from the Strip casinos.

February’s baccarat win accounted for 51 percent of all table game revenue for the Strip casinos. The table game helped propel statewide gaming win to $1 billion last month, up 7.7 percent.
