Just a couple months removed from their back-to-back victories at the APPT Macau High Roller and Super High Roller, poker power couple Alex Foxen and Kristen Bicknell were at it again, this time playing against each other for a big tournament title in Las Vegas.
The two players were part of 178 entries in the $5,000 buy-in Mid-States Poker Tour event at the Venetian as part of the ongoing DeepStack Championship Poker Series. After three days of action, the happy couple found themselves heads-up and chopping the lion’s share of the prize pool.
Bicknell, a former Supernova Elite from Ontario who already owns two World Series of Poker bracelets, came into the final table of ten in fourth position. Foxen, a poker pro from New York with more than $4.2 million in earnings, went in as the chip leader.
With eight players left, Bicknell five-bet jammed over Foxen’s cold four-bet from the big blind. Foxen took out Pavel Plesuv in seventh and Joey Weissman in sixth, while Bicknell busted Blake Whittington in fifth and Phong “Turbo” Nguyen in fourth, keeping the couple atop the leaderboard.
Foxen won a big pot with a set of jacks against Bicknell during three-handed play, but she won some back by shoving over his flop bet a bit later. Eventually, both players took turns doubling through Australian high-stakes pro Kahle Burns, who eventually bowed out in third place.
With Bicknell and Foxen now heads-up for the title, the two agreed to each pocket $200,000 and play for the remaining $39,000 on the side. A few minutes later, both players got it in with on a board reading 9748. Bicknell had 95 for top pair and a straight draw, but Foxen had K9 for top pair with a better kicker. The river was the K and Foxen doubled through, leaving Bicknell with just a few big blinds. She was eliminated on the very next hand.
Here’s what the champion had to say on his Twitter account.
