The state of Texas will soon see the addition of another room to its growing social poker scene.
According to a report from 12newsnow.com, a new poker club offering cash games and tournaments will open in Beaumont on Aug. 3. The Texas Poker Club will join more than 30 rooms like it around the Lone Star State. A majority of the rooms are located in the Houston area, and the Texas Poker Club is located about an hour from Houston.
The poker clubs don’t take a rake, with the first in the growing market opening just a handful of years ago. The business model involves revenue from membership fees and time-based seat fees. The poker clubs provide the dealers and the facility, as well as security and other amenities.
Earlier this month, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton declined to issue an opinion on the legality of the rake-free model, citing pending litigation between two rival rooms that could clarify state law pertaining to the membership model.
For now at least, the popular rooms have the green light.
Here’s a look at coverage of the latest Texas poker room, set to open next month.
