Strip casinos won $477.9 million from gamblers, down from $545.5 million a year prior, the Silver State said. Clark County as a whole fell 10.1 percent to $756 million. Statewide, the casino industry won $912.9 million, down 7.7 percent from from $989.5 million.
The state collected $46.8 million in taxes during September based upon the taxable revenues generated in August. That represented a seven percent decrease compared to the prior year’s September, when percentage fee collections were $50.3 million.
The poor August for the Strip made it so that gaming win over the prior 12 months (9/1/2017 to 8/31/2018) is now in the red. The $6.5 billion in gambling win during the period was off 0.3 percent compared to the same 12-month period a year prior.
In August of this year, nearly every single casino offering was down on the Strip. Blackjack win of $56.5 million was down a whopping 34 percent year-over-year. Baccarat, the most lucrative table game, generated $92 million in August, down 8.8 percent. Strip sports books retained $3.1 million of the handle, down 82.6 percent.
Even slots were down in August, falling 1.2 percent to $255.1 million.
Poker was actually a bright spot for casinos on or around the state’s main gambling corridor. Poker revenue of $5.4 million was up 3.1 percent year-over-year.
The Strip’s August performance follows a July in which gaming fell 5.7 percent.
