CEO Poker Tour Hits Venetian Next WeekPlayers Are Invited to Play and Network With Collegues |

A poker tour touches down at the Venetian next week that will bring out a group of players who know a thing or two about business. The CEO Poker Tour takes place at the Venetian July 2-9. Eight no-limit hold'em events and three supersatellites to the $2,620 championship event take place during this week.
The schedule is as follows:
The CEO Poker Tour is in its third year. It went from holding one event to having a dozen planned for the following year. The CEO Poker Tour has held tourneys at the Palm, Caesars Palace, the Venetian, and Trump's Taj Mahal.
The events are designed so that players get plenty of poker play to both give the players their money's worth and to also give them plenty of time to network with their fellow businessmen and women while tossing chips into the pot.
In all $550 events, players start with $10,000 chips and blind levels are 40 minutes. In the $2,620 event, players start with $20,000 chips and blind levels are 90 minutes.
People who want to play in the CEO Poker Tour events have to meet a certain "business" criterion. The criterion changes from event to event, and next week's tourney has a fairly loose definition of "CEO." Players who also happen to sit on the career ladder as managers and higher can compete in any tournament next week.
The winner of the $2,620 event will receive the CPT Cup, a crystal trophy that would look good in any office anywhere.
Maria Gomez, president of CEO Poker Tour, loves the fact that the tournament series is taking place during the World Series of Poker. The Venetian has already been attracting thousands of players during its Deep Stacks Extravaganza II series that will still be going on during the CEO Poker Tour's events.
Thanks to all the players in town, the $550 events during the DSE II have consistently attracted more than 350 players, and Gomez hopes the crowds will continue for her events.
"We're very excited; it's a great week to do it. We're not here to compete against the World Series; we're just here to give executives another option," Gomez said.
Why does she think that the business and poker go hand in hand?
"When you're at a poker table, you're always making decisions. I think a lot of that is business sense," Gomez said. "You do it on a daily basis and I think it translates over to poker very easily."
This series is a preview of the Chairman of Poker championship series that will take place at the Venetian Aug. 30 to Sept. 10. The winner of that event receives a four-foot-tall trophy, bragging rights, a bushelful of money, and if Gomez's vision is correct, a pocketful of business cards to help strengthen the winner's company.
