There were hundreds of gamblers at the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino bingo hall Monday night, each with the ability to play up to 180 electronic cards at a time, so it’s no surprise that the jackpot was split.
The surprise, was that the jackpot was split between a record 290 players!
The game caller managed to get through an astounding 44 game balls without drawing any from the “G” column, putting most of the room on the brink of winning. Finally, “G-53” was pulled, resulting in a chorus of “BINGO” shouts from around the hall.
Bingo staff verified and counted up 290 valid cards. According to WISN Milwaukee, the odds of that happening are approximately one in 1.5 million.
Normally, the game’s $500 jackpot would be shared by just a few players, but this particular chop would have been worth only a paltry $1.72 for each winner. Considering the smallest bingo buy-in at Potawatomi is $5, that prize still results in a net-loss for the player.
Fortunately, the casino stepped up to award each winner the $25 minimum, for a total payout of $7,250, or 14.5 times the original listed jackpot.
