The 26th annual running of the L.A. Poker Classic series got underway on Jan. 16, 2019 at the Commerce Casino. This expansive and exciting 69-event schedule is entering its business end, with the centerpiece of the whole series, the World Poker Tour L.A. Poker Classic $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event, set to kick off on Saturday, March 2 at noon local time. Players will start with 40,000 in chips with blinds beginning at 100-100, with the big-blind ante kicking on for level 3. Play will continue until the final table is set on Mar. 6, at which point play will be halted until a champion is decided at the televised final table, which will be filmed at the HyperX Esports Arena Las Vegas at The Luxor.

Registration will stay open in this freeze-out event until the start of the 11th level (approximately 3:30 p.m. on day 2), with the tournament played nine-handed until 80 players remain, at which point the tables will shift to eight-handed. The first eight levels will last 60 minutes, increasing to 90 minutes each level on days 2 and 3. On days 4 and 5 levels will last 120 minutes until a final table of six is decided. Redraws will happen at the end of each day and also when the field reaches the following milestones: 24 remaining, 16 remaining, and 9 players remaining.

Dennis BliedenThe L.A. Poker Classic main event is one of the most legendary tournaments on the World Poker Tour, producing winners such as Antonio Esfandiari, Chris Moorman, Michael Mizrachi, Anthony Zinno, Gus Hansen, Alan Goehring, Dietrich Fast, Phil Ivey, and Daniel Strelitz. In 2018 Dennis Blieden topped a field of 493 players to secure his first WPT title and the $1,000,000 first-place prize.

“The continued growth and success of the event comes from having a staff dedicated to creating great events, great structures, and the type of experience you won’t get anywhere else," Commerce tournament coordinator Justin Hammer told the WPT. “We take a lot of pride in our product, and I think players appreciate that.”

There will be an exciting new way for players to win a seat into the LAPC main event this year: the ‘One-Day One Million Satellite Event,’ which will get underway on Friday, March 1, with flights at noon and 6:00 p.m. and will feature a $1,100 buy-in. Each of the two flights will award a guaranteed 50 seats into the big dance.

“We’re awarding 100 seats into the $10,000 main event in one day,” said Hammer. "It’s a million guaranteed in one day, and at least 100 players will move on to have a chance at winning $1 million. It’s a huge gamble on our part, but it’s what the players wanted, so we’re going for it.”
