One gambler in Mississippi turned $25 into a six-figure score thanks to hitting a 20-leg parlay two weeks ago.
ESPN Chalk is reporting that an anonymous gambler bet $25 at Riverwalk Casino in Vicksburg on March 8. The parlay was a mix of point spreads, over/unders and money line bets between NBA and college basketball games.
When the Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder, the bettor was able to cash in his ticket and collect his $104,412.44 payout. BetAmerica, the operator of the sportsbook at Riverwalk, told ESPN that it was the largest payout in the history of the sportsbook, which has been open since last August.
BetAmerica Vice President Alan Stremel, said that other 20-leg parlays placed and the market in Mississippi enjoys the sweat that comes with them.
“We know players are excited about it, and the market has been interested in parlays. People like the potential payouts when putting it all together,” said Stremel.
The huge payout may be the first 20-team parlay ever hit in a regulated environment. According to Bill Sattler, who has been in the industry for more than 30 years and is director of specialty game for Caesars, he’s never seen a 20-leg parlay hit.
Before last year, Sattler would have known about a victorious 20-leg parlay because sports betting was only taking place in Nevada. With legal sports betting popping up nationwide, it’s possible to see more longshots come through because of the additional opportunities that gamblers have available.
“I’ve heard of 15, but not 20, not with us,” said Sattler. “Welcome to the business.”
