Maurice Hawkins outlasted a field of 391 entries in the 2019 World Series of Poker Circuit Harrah’s Cherokee $600 no-limit hold’em big-blind ante event, capturing his 12th WSOPC gold ring and the top prize of $44,297. The win moved Hawkins into a tie with Valentin Vornicu for the most titles on the circuit. Hawkins is the all-time WSOPC earnings leader, with $1,668,698 in cashes made on the tour.
“It’s not really about the top spot. I still got the most money earned, most everything on the WSOP Circuit, so it’s pretty much the standard, but that makes me feel like my game has evolved to where it should be. I look forward to bigger and better things. It’s all about positivity and good flow of things going the right way,” Hawkins told WSOP reporters after taking down his latest ring.
“I ran exceptionally well in every spot. And I played really well. I got a lot of third and fourth in the last couple of months. It feels great to finally get back to the winner’s circle. I don’t look at myself as a third-place finisher in any tournament.”
The Floridian poker pro was also awarded 300 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win. This was his eighth final table and first title of 2019. As a result, Hawkins now sits in 69th place on the overall POY leaderboard, with 1,167 points and $170,154 in year-to-date earnings.
