Over the years, Daniel Negreanu has earned a reputation for his ability to read other players. A simple search on YouTube produces numerous examples from his time on televised cash games and tournaments.
On Thursday, the six-time bracelet winner added another soul read to his highlight reel, managing to lose the minimum while playing at the featured table during day 1B of the 2019 World Series of Poker main event.
The 44-year-old called a raise from Carol Harmon out of the big blind with K
Q
and saw a flop of J 9 6. Negreanu checked, and Harmon made a continuation bet.
Negreanu made the call with his flush draw, overcards, and gutshot straight draw. The turn was the Q, giving him the second nut flush.
He checked again, and Harmon bet once more. It was at this point in the hand that Negreanu sensed that something was up.

Negreanu managed to preserve most of his stack this hand, and went on to finish the day with a healthy chip count of 71,800.
Kid Poker is having a relatively solid summer, his first since ending his 12-year sponsorship with online poker site PokerStars. He has 12 cashes, and three final tables, but narrowly missed out on his seventh bracelet with a runner-up finish in the $10,000 stud event.
