David Benefield has won the 2019 Triton Poker Super High Roller Series London £25,000 ($31,475 USD) buy-in short deck no-limit hold’em event. The 33-year-old American poker pro defeated a field of 108 total entries to secure his first-ever live tournament title and the top prize of £650,000 ($793,000 USD). The win brought the 2013 World Series of Poker main event eighth-place finisher’s career earnings to more than $3.3 million.

In addition to the title and the money, Benefield also earned 840 Card Player Player of the Year points as the champion of this event. This was his second final table of the year, having placed fourth in a short-deck event back in March for another $210,600 and 252 points. As a result of his short deck scores, Benefield now sits in 271st place in the 2019 POY race standings, which are sponsored by Global Poker.

Benefield entered the final table in fifth chip position. English businessman and high-stakes tournament regular Talal Shakerchi began the day as the short stack and was unable to overcome that disadvantage. He ultimately finished seventh for $142,740 USD.

Canadian Peter Jetten was the next to his the rail, earning $180,926 USD for his seventh final-table finish of 2019. Jetten has now cashed for more than $4.3 million so far this year, and is currently sitting in 34th place in the POY rankings.

Chin Wei Lim finished fifth for $288,530 USD. Like Jetten, he was knocked out by Bjorn Li. Despite scoring both of those eliminations, it was Li who was the next to be sent packing. Benefield won a preflop all-in with QHeart Suit10Diamond Suit against Li’s KClub Suit10Spade Suit. Benefield paired his queen and held from there to bust Li in fourth place ($288,530 USD).

Pang Feng began the day as the chip leader, but he ended up bowing out in third place ($356,240 USD) to set up a heads-up showdown between Benefield and Cheok Leng Cheong. Benefield began with the lead, and was able to weather two double-ups from Cheomng before the final hand of the tournament arose.

Cheong shoved from the button with ASpade Suit9Heart Suit for 7,000,000 and Benefield called with 10Diamond Suit9Diamond Suit. The board ran out KClub SuitQHeart Suit8Diamond SuitJClub SuitKSpade Suit and Benefield made a straight to secure the pot and the title. Cheong earned $542,900 USD as the runner up.
