If the Houston Astros win the World Series, few sportsbooks will be hit harder than the DraftKings sportsbook at the Scarlet Pearl Casino in Mississippi.

Since the start of October, the sportsbook has accepted a pair of seven-figure bets on this year’s Fall Classic.

The first was a highly publicized $3.5 million bet from a Houston-area furniture salesman. Jim ‘Mattress Mack’ McIngvale, owner of a furniture store in the city, offered his customers a full refund on any mattress purchase of $3,000 or more if the Astros win the 2019 World Series.

He ran a nearly identical promotion in 2017 when the Astros defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers for the title and McIngvale refunded about $10 million back to his customers. To hedge against himself, McIngvale placed more than $5 million on the Astros to win it again this year.

He started by placing the biggest bet ever wagered in Mississippi, according to DraftKings co-founder Matt Kalish, and then added another $1.5 million wager at the FanDuel sportsbook at the Meadowlands racetrack in New Jersey.

McIngvale told the Philadelphia Inquirer that these promotions he runs, while possibly expensive, make his business more enjoyable.

“I like doing these kinds of promotions for the customers,” said McIngvale. “Let’s face: It’s kind of mundane selling mattresses. This makes it more exciting.”

McIngvale said that if the Astros win this year, he’ll be refunding about $15 million in purchases. The store owner received +220 odds on his bet in Mississippi and +250 in New Jersey. He also placed $240,000 in Las Vegas earlier in the year at +25-. He stands to win $11.6 million in total on all his bets if the Astros win eight more games.

A week after McIngvale placed his bet at the Scarlet Pearl, an unnamed man placed a $1 million wager at the same sportsbook that the team representing the American League would win the World Series. If the Astros or New York Yankees win it all, that man would stand to profit $700,000.

These two bets make will make up a large percentage of the state’s overall sports betting handle for the month. In August, the last month data is available for, Mississippi sportsbooks accepted $19.9 million in wagers. With football in full swing, and two seven-figure baseball bets, those numbers are likely to increase in October.
