2019 CPPT Live! Casino & Hotel: Dave Alfa Wins Kickoff Event

A Look At The Results From The First Six Events of the CPPT Series

The Card Player Poker Tour has teamed up with Live! Casino & Hotel for a second time, coming together with the property voted Maryland’s Best Casino by Casino Player Magazine for six straight years tp put on a 25-event tournament series. The poker festival will run from Oct. 25 – Nov. 7, with something for every poker player. The buy-ins range from as low as $160 all the way up to $1,100 for the 2019 CPPT Live! Casino & Hotel no-limit hold’em main event. The marquee tournament of this year’s series will run from Nov. 1-4 and feature a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool.

Event 1 Champion Dave AlfaThe series got started with a $100,000 guaranteed $360 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament that ran from Oct. 25-27. A total of 431 entries were made across the event’s four starting flights, easily surpassing the guarantee to create a final prize pool of $133,610.

When all was said and done Dave Alfa came out on top with the title, earning $25,018 as the first CPPT champion of the series. This was the Texas native’s fifth live tournament title, and his third-largest career score. Earlier this year he earned his biggest ever payday by taking down the World Series of Poker Circuit Choctaw main event for $320,998.

CPPT Event #2 – $200 Limit 5 Card Omaha Results:

The second event of the series was a $200 buy-in limit five-card Omaha tournament that drew 25 entries to create a $4,350 prize pool. Stuart Rotter emerged victorious with the title and the top prize of $1,831 after defeating Jeffery Davis heads-up.

This was the Clarksville, MD resident’s second title won at Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland, having taken down a $330 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. event in late 2017 during the World Poker Tour series.

Next up on the schedule was the $300 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. event which was held on Sunday, Oct. 27. A total of 31 entries were made, building a prize pool of $8,339 that was awarded to the top seven finishers.

Baltimore, MD resident Christian Jones came out on top to secure his first-ever live tournament title and the top prize of $1,757.

The second no-limit hold’em event of the series featured a $25,000 guaranteed prize pool and a buy-in of $360. A total of 78 entries were made in this no-limit hold’em tournament, with the top ten finishers making the money.

The single-day event was ultimately won by Tae Kim from Ellicott City, MD. This was the first live tournament win of his career.

Joseph Malebranche finished third for $3,050, notching another deep run less than two weeks after he finished runner-up in the WSOP Circuit main event in Baltimore.

Latonia Gatling overcame a field of 15 entries to win the CPPT Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland $160 buy-in no-limit hold’em ladies event. This was the Virginia Beach, VA resident’s first live tournament win.

The $20,000 guaranteed $300 buy-in seniors no-limit hold’em event saw 76 total entries made, beating the guarantee to create a final prize pool of $20,520. The top ten players all made the money, with Timothy Little of Hyattsville, MD earning the top payout of $2,756.

“We are excited to be teaming up with the Card Player Poker Tour for the second time,” said The Poker Room at Live! Casino & Hotel Tournament Director Jason Heidenthal. “The room opened in 2013 and since then our goal has been to make it the premier tournament destination in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area.”

The Poker Room at Live! Casino & Hotel is one of the largest on the East Coast, with 15,000 square feet of room and 50 tables available for 24/7, around-the-clock action. The luxurious and comfortable room will play host to 13 days of exciting tournament play, with a variety of games and formats on the schedule. There are four bounty events, a $200 six-max no-limit hold’em event, a $300 H.O.R.S.E. event, a $200 limit five-card Omaha, a tag-team switch event, a $300 survivor tournament, ladies and seniors tournaments and much more.

The whole affair kicks off with a $100,000 guaranteed $360 buy-in no-limit hold’em event, with four starting flights available. Day 1A and day 1B begin at 11:15 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. on Oct. 25, with day 1C and day 1D getting underway at the same starting times on Oct. 26. The survivors of all four flights will combine and play down to a champion on Oct. 27.

The $200,000 guaranteed CPPT Live! Casino & Hotel no-limit hold’em main event sports two starting flights, with day 1A kicking off at 12:15 on Nov. 1 and day 1B at 12:15 on Nov. 2. Players will begin with 40,000 in chips, with 40-minute levels on the two starting days and hour-long levels on day 2. The event will feature unlimited re-entry, with late registration available until the start of day 2.

There will be plenty of ways for players to win their way into the big guaranteed tournaments that are on the schedule for this series.

“We plan on running a lot of satellites for both the kickoff tournament and the main event,” said Heidenthal. “There will be tons of ways for people to get into the $200,000 guaranteed CPPT main event. Those satellites will start being offered in early October.”

The Live! Casino & Hotel first teamed up with the Card Player Poker Tour in January of 2018. The inaugural series featured 16 events, with the marquee tournament being the $1,100 buy-in, $200,000 guaranteed no-limit hold’em main event. The tournament attracted a total of 307 total entries, blowing away the $200,000 guarantee to build a final prize pool of $307,000. The lion’s share of that was awarded to eventual champion Eric Ladny, who took home $54,022 and became the first-ever CPPT champion decided in Maryland.

Conveniently located between Baltimore and Washington D.C., Live!
