Add O.J. Simpson to the list of celebrities that are having problems with the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas. The 72-year-old Hall of Fame running back is suing the Las Vegas Strip casino for defamation.
The lawsuit stems from an alleged incident in November 2017, where Simpson was banned from the property for being drunk and disruptive. According to a TMZ report on the incident, Simpson was drunk and disruptive at Clique bar where he initiated a physical altercation that resulted in some broken glassware.
On his way out of the casino, he was handed a trespassing notice and was banned from the property. The scrum took place just a few weeks after Simpson was released from prison on armed robbery charges.
But the former Buffalo Bills star says that the entire report is false. He claims he wasn’t drunk, there was no scrum resulting in broken glass and there was no reason to be banned from the property.
His attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, claims that it was a typical night out for Simpson and his friends. The lawsuit states that there was no incident at Clique bar and Simpson was confronted by security in the parking garage where the trespassing notice was given and he was told not to return.
The lawsuit states that not only was the incident entirely fabricated, but Simpson’s parole officer made a surprise appearance at Simpson’s house the next day to give him a drug and alcohol test. The results were negative, indicating that Simpson could not have been intoxicated the night before. The officer also went to the Cosmopolitan the next day and couldn’t find any evidence that his parole was violated.
Simpson is seeking at least $15,000 in damages along with legal fees.
Earlier this year, rapper Meek Mill was denied entry to the casino. Actor and comedian Kevin Hart is currently being sued over a sex tape filmed at the property.
