Pablo Silva has won the $5,000,000 guaranteed 2020 partypoker MILLIONS South America $10,300 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event. The Brazilian defeated a field of 465 total entries to secure his first major title and the top prize of $1,000,000.
Silva was also awarded 1,800 Card Player Player of the Year points as the champion of this event. The win was enough to catapult him into fourth place in the overall 2020 POY standings, which are sponsored by Global Poker.
The final table began with Silva sitting in third chip position among the nine remaining players. Rafael Henrique Dutra Caiaffa was the first to hit the rail when his Q10 failed to outrace the 99 of Fabian Gumz. Caiaffa took home $80,000 for his ninth-place showing.
Pedro Madeira was the next to go. He got his last chips in holding KJ up against the AQ of Andres Viola. Both players his a pair, but Viola’s aces were enough to eliminate Madeira in eighth place ($100,000).
European Poker Tour Dublin main event winner Dzmitry Urbanovich’s run in this event came to an end when his AK ran into the 99 of Daniel Rezaei, who started the final table as the chip leader. Rezaei flopped quads to leave Urbanovic drawing dead. The Polish poker pro earned $130,000 as the seventh-place finisher.
That knockout kept Rezaei in the lead, but Fabio Colonese was not far behind. The two big stacks clashed during six-handed action, resulting in the biggest pot of the tournament to that point. With a flop of J0 the two got all of their chips into the middle. Rezaei had flopped middle set with the 99, while Colonese had flush and straight draws with the A10. The 8 on the turn gave Colonese the lead, and the 4 on the river secured the massive pot for him.He surged to over 200,000,000, while Rezaei was left on fumes.
Sergio Luis Di Pego was the next to be eliminated when his pocket fours failed to beat out the Q8 of Colonese. Di Pego was awarded $170,000 for his deep run. Andres Viola got his last chips in with top pair against a double gutshot straight draw for Colonese. The river brought in Colonese’s draw and Viola had to settle for $230,000 as the fifth-place finisher.
Daniel Rezaei was able to rebuild after losing the huge pot to Colonese earlier, and moved into second chip position by knocking out Fabian Humz in fourth place. Rezaei’s AK held up against Gumz’s AQ to send the German home with $310,000.
Silva entered three-handed play as the shortest stack, but managed to battle his way to the top of the counts by the time the next elimination took place. Silva called the three-bet shove of Resaei with 99. His opponent was in rough shape with the 88. Niether player improved and Rezaei was knocked out in third place, taking home $435,000.
With that Silva took a sizable lead into heads-up play against Colonese. In the final hand of the tournament Silva limped in from the button holding JJ. Colonese shoved for 60,000,000 with the 86. Silva made the quick call and flopped a fullhouse on a J44 board. The 5 and K were mere formalities. Colonese earned $640,000 as the runner-up.
