In this new "Strip Poker" series, Card Player covers the Las Vegas poker scene - on the Strip and around the city.

Today's top NBA players would have an edge on the basketball court against the legends of the game who are a little older and possibly rusty from a few years of retirement, but that is not the case when competing at a poker table. At the third annual New School Versus Old School charity poker tournament, current NBA superstars such as Jason Kidd and Tracy McGrady will be pitted against retired pros including Spud Webb and Julius Erving in a poker tournament Aug. 11 in the Mirage high-limit lounge.

The red carpet event begins at 1 p.m. and the proceeds will be donated to two charities: Operation Smile and the American Cancer Society. Greg Anthony and Jermaine O'Neal will host this year's event, and 11-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth will emcee. Other athletes set to attend include Jose Conseco, Baron Davis, and Rick Barry.
