The $1,000 buy-in tournaments have been all the rage online, recently. The
$1K Monday on Full Tilt has always done well for itself, inspiring the $1,000 buy-in
Super Tuesday tournament on PokerStars, which has had even greater success. So, does it come as any surprise that event No. 7 of the
Full Tilt Online Poker Series (
FTOPS)
V, the $1,000 buy-in shorthanded no-limit hold'em tournament, was such a resounding success?
The tournament attracted 1,282 entrants and thus generated a prize pool of $1,282,000, easily above the $1 million guaranteed for the event. Poker pro and red-named Full Tilt-sponsored player
J.J. Liu made it deep in the tournament before eventually busting out in 10th place, earning $18,589.
Prominent Internet players
Frank "Round42" Rusnak,
Himclip85, and
Smokinokun (who won a shorthanded no-limit event in the
FTOPS III) all made it to the final table. In fact, those three players all made it to three-way play before Smokinokun finished in third place ($121,790). Round42 then bested Himclip85 in heads-up play to take down the $262,169 first-place prize. Round42 also earned an exclusive gold
FTOPS jersey avatar for his finish in the event.
The final results were:
1) Frank "Round42" Rusnak - $262,169
2) Himclip85 - $173,070
3) Smokinokun - $121,790
4) Fixhult - $91,022
5) JSchnett - $65,382
6) Pot Odds 3 - $42,947
