McKeehen now has more than $17.7 million in lifetime tournament earnings to his name after these back-to-back huge scores, making him the third-highest earning WSOP main event champion in poker history, behind only 1989 winner Phil Hellmuth ($22,789,804 in earnings) and 2010 champion Jonathan Duhamel ($17,981,623 in earnings). He currently sits in 37th place on poker’s overall money list.
In addition to the trophy and the money, McKeehen was also awarded 480 Card Player Player of the Year points for his latest title run. When combined with the 1,520 points he earned for his runner-up showing in the recent WPT Venetian main event, McKeehen has accrued a total of 2,000 points. As a result, he now sits in third place in the 2021 POY race standings, which are sponsored by Global Poker.
The strong turnout for this high roller event built a prize pool of $830,000. which was paid out among the top 11 finishers. Plenty of big names made the money in this event, including 2020 Mid-States Poker Tour Venetian champion Landon Tice (11th – $24,900), two-time World Poker Tour champion Brian Altman (10th – $24,900), and a quartet of WSOP bracelet winners in Joseph Cheong (9th – $24,900), Jeremey Ausmus (8th – $33,200), Joey Weissman (7th – $41,500), and Ankush Mandavia (6th – $49,800). Mandavia recently won the Card Player Poker Tour Venetian $3,500 buy-in main event for $260,000 and 1,260 POY points. With 1,420 total points and $309,800 in year-to-date earnings, Mandavia now occupies the sixth-place spot in the POY standings.
High-roller regular and 2018 POY award winner Jake Schindler earned $66,400 as the fifth-place finisher, while Spanish high-stakes player Sergio Aido took home $83,000 for his fourth-place showing. With the elimination of Dragana Lim in third place ($99,600), McKeehen set up a heads-up showdown with Shawn Daniels. McKeehen came out on top in the end, sending Daniels to the rail with $157,700 for the largest payday of his career.
