The 2021 Palm Beach Poker Classic $1,100 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event attracted a field of 312 entries, blowing away the $200,000 guarantee to create a prize pool of $302,640. New York native Santino Marko emerged victorious in the end, overcoming Yuriy Kozinskiy heads-up for the title, the top prize of $71,119, and 480 Card Player Player of the Year points.
According to the Palm Beach Kennel Club Poker Room’s blog, Marko had promised his grandmother that he would bring home the trophy. The 30-year-old made good on that promise, securing the hardware to bring home to his wife and four children.
A total of 48 players survived the two starting flights in this event, with Marko sitting in 18th chip position when the final day’s action began. The top 33 finishers made the money in this event, with a min-cash being worth $1,807. The top seven finishers all secured five-figure paydays.
Kozinskiy, who finished second for $43,974, earned 400 POY points as the runner up. This was his second POY-qualified score of the year, having won a $600 buy-in event at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood in February for $60,000 and 456 points. He now sits in 33rd place in the 2021 POY race standings, which are sponsored by Global Poker.
