Teun Mulder had made some deep runs in a number of huge online events in recent years, including a pair of seven-figure scores in September of 2020. Mulder made a heads-up deal in last year’s World Poker Tour World Online Championships main event that saw him earn $1,396,968 as the runner-up finisher from a field of 1,011 entries. Less than a week after that huge cash, Mulder struck a deal as one of the final three players in the 2020 World Championship of Online Poker main event to earn another $1,101,528.

The Dutch player’s most recent big cash came in a victory at the 2021 PokerStars Spring Championships of Online Poker on Monday, Apr. 12. Mulder defeated a field 257 entries in the $5,200 buy-in no-limit hold’em high roller event to earn $247,089 and his second SCOOP title. He earned his first last year by taking down the $10,300 no-limit hold’em progressive knockout (PKO) high roller.

Mulder came into the final day of this event in seventh chip position with eight players remaining. The final table was meant to begin with nine players left, but Daniel ‘SmilleThHero’ Smiljkovic was knocked out in ninth place ($29,349) during hand-for-hand play, with Pascal ‘Pass_72’ Lefrancois ($23,242) having finished 10th during the same deal at the other table.

Mulder got off to a strong start with an early double up with A-K. Not long after that he won a healthy pot with A-Q that helped him climb nearer to the top of the leaderboard. He outlasted ‘Driekus888’(8th – $37,06), Jon ‘luckyfish89’ Clark (7th – $48,598), and Simon ‘C. Darwin2’ Mattsson (6th – $63,728) to make it down to five-handed action in the middle of the pack. Mulder then overtook the chip lead by doubling up with his KClub SuitQDiamond Suit drawing out on the AClub SuitQClub Suit of Joni ‘bustoville’ Jouhkimainen after a preflop raising war in a battle of the blinds.

Jouhkimainen was left short and was ultimately the next to fall, losing a preflop race with pocket sixes against the AHeart SuitQHeart Suit of two-time SCOOP event winner Pablo ‘pabritz’ Brito. Jouhkimainen earned $83,567 as the fifth-place finisher.

Christoph Vogelsang2017 Super High Roller Bowl champion Christoph Vogelsang’s run in this event came to an end in fourth place. The German high stakes tournament regular had slid down into the danger zone several times during four-handed play, only to scratch his way back into contention. In his final hand, the Russian-based player known as ‘a_new_hope13’ opened for 400,000 from the cutoff with ADiamond SuitJSpade Suit and Vogelsang called from the big blind with 4Heart Suit3Heart Suit. The flop came down 9Club Suit6Heart Suit4Spade Suit and Vogelsang checked. ‘a_new_hope13’ checked back and the JClub Suit hit the turn. Vogelsang checked and called a bet of 700,000. The 8Heart Suit river saw Vogelsang check yet again. ‘a_new_hope13’ decided to move all-in, putting Vogelsang to the test for the rest of his 1,819,624 stack. Vogelsang went into the tank and made the hero call with his bottom pair, only to be shown top pair, top kicker. He earned $109,582 as the fourth-place finisher.

Despite knocking out Vogelsang, ‘a_new_hope13’ was the next to be eliminated. Their final hand began with a min-raiseto 400,000 on the button holding AClub SuitKDiamond Suit. Brito called with 6Diamond Suit5Club Suit from the big blind and the flop came down KHeart Suit4Diamond Suit3Club Suit. Brito checked and ‘a_new_hope13’ bet 321,750. Brito check-raised to 900,000 with his open-ended straight draw and ‘a_new_hope13’ called with top pair, top kicker. The 2Diamond Suit turn completed Brito’s straight draw. He fired another 900,000 and ‘a_new_hope13’ called. The river brought the 2Spade Suit and Brito moved all-in, having ‘a_new_hope13’ covered. They called off their last 3,693,262 only to find out that they had run into a straight. ‘a_new_hope13’ was awarded $143,695 for their third-place showing in this event.

Heads-up play was a brief affair. Brito began with a slight lead, but Mulder managed to pull just ahead during the first few hands of their final showdown. Then the two players both picked up pocket pairs, and all of the chips got in the middle preflop. Brito raised to 673,750 from the button with blinds of 125,000-250,000 holding the 8Heart Suit8Club Suit. Mulder three-bet to 2,000,000 with the 9Diamond Suit9Club Suit. Brito moved all-in for 11,440,033 and Mulder quickly called. The board ran out KClub Suit10Spade Suit3Spade Suit5Spade SuitAHeart Suit and Mulder’s superior pair held up to earn him the pot and the title. Brito cashed for $188,429 as the runner-up.
