Resorts Word Las Vegas, which is set to become the largest casino resort on the Las Vegas Strip when it opens next month, will become the first Strip casino to accept cryptocurrencies as payment.

The Genting-owned casino announced a partnership with Gemini, a cryptocurrency exchange and custodian owned by billionaire twin brothers Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss. The partnership will allow patrons of the casino to use their Gemini crypto wallets to purchase items at the resort.

According to a press release, the finer details of the partnership will finalized in the coming weeks. Cryptocurrency will not be allowed to be used for gambling, however, as gaming regulators have strict rules regarding these types of transactions and they have not approved it yet.

That could change in the future as cryptocurrencies become more common.

David G. Schwartz, a gaming historian at University of Nevada Las Vegas, told the local CBS affiliate that if this move is popular at Resorts World, it’s very likely other properties will implement it as well.

“I think before you have all the resorts doing it, it will be a way for them to differentiate,” said Schwartz. “I think they are seeing if people want to do it.”

Resorts World Las Vegas will be the first casino on the Las Vegas Strip to accept these types of currencies, but the D Las Vegas in Downtown Las Vegas on Fremont St. has been accepting cryptocurrency as payment for a few years.

“We are incredibly excited to work with Resorts World Las Vegas, the first casino on the Las Vegas Strip to partner with a crypto platform and explore integrating crypto into their guest experience,” said CEO of Gemini Tyler Winklevoss in a statement. “Whether it’s the ability for their customers to use cryptocurrency at Resorts World Las Vegas or convert dollars into crypto, being one of the first to support crypto is a great way to meet the needs of the next generation of customers and provide a 21st century experience.”
