Philip “wingsuiter” Beck dominated the final table of the latest World Series of Poker Online event to earn both his first career tournament victory and WSOP bracelet.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, Beck topped the massive 1,217-entry field in the $400 no-limit hold’em six-max event to earn the hardware and the $81,534 first-place prize money. He defeated Justin “pocketprofit” Wong heads-up to earn the five-figure boost to his bankroll.
Wong nearly doubled his career tournament earnings with his runner-up finish as the New Jersey native earned $50,384, bringing his career total over the six-figure mark.
Wong and Beck started the final table at opposite ends of the leaderboard. When the last six players converged at the final table, Wong was sitting with just shy of 25 big blinds and only ahead of Aaron “WompDatThomp” Thivyanathan, while Beck was second in chips behind only Kenneth “ace710” Neri.
The short-stacked Thivyanathan was the first to depart after he lost a flip with A-K against Kristian “Daaanutzzzz” Michl’s pocket 10s. Thivyanathan never made a pair and was out in sixth for $13,669.
Beck then vaulted into the chip lead when he dispatched of Michl just a few hands later. In a battle of the blinds, the two got all in preflop with Beck showing 99 and behind Michl’s 1010.
The flop was nine-high, however, and moved Beck into the lead. Michl flopped an open-ended straight draw on the 9-8-7 board, but the Q on the turn and the A on the river sent him home in fifth and moved Beck into the chip lead for good.
From there, Beck cruised to victory. In less than an hour, he eliminated the final three remaining players standing between him and the bracelet.
He won a flip with A-K against 5-5 to send Ameer “CashIsK1NG” Wakil to the rail in fourth and busted Neri in third when his J10 was all in preflop against Neri’s A3. Beck rivered the nut straight to give himself nearly a 5-to-1 chip advantage against Wong.
Heads-up play lasted only a few hands before Wong was all in for about 10 big blinds with Q10 against Beck’s A9.
The board ran out J736K and the all the chips were sent to Beck’s virtual seat. With his dominant performance, the entire final table lasted only about 75 minutes.
Like Wong, the victory more than doubled Beck’s career earnings, which also crossed into the six-figure range thanks to his bracelet victory.
