Bryan Piccioli Wins Second World Series of Poker Gold Bracelet

Event no. 12 of the 2021 World Series of Poker Online saw four WSOP main event final-table finishers survive to the final nine players from a field of 959 entries. In the end, it was 2017 main event sixth-place finisher Bryan Piccioli He earned his second gold bracelet and the top prize of $83,332 after coming out on top.

Piccioli’s first bracelet came in the $1,100 no-limit hold’em ‘accumulator’ event at the 2013 WSOP Asia Pacific. He outlasted a field of 1,085 entries in that tournament to earn $221,419. Piccioli now has more than $4.8 million in lifetime tournament earnings, with more than $1.7 million coming from his deep run in the main event five years ago.

The other main event final tablists to make deep runs in this event were 2014 seventh-place finisher Dan Sindelar, 2020 domestic final table fifth-place finisher Ye Yuan, and 2018 third-place finisher Michael Dyer.

This tournament, which was a $500 buy-in no-limit hold’em turbo deepstack, took just more than seven hours to complete. Jason ‘qigong’ Werrell was the first to fall when their A-4 failed to outrun the K-8 suited of four-time World Poker Tour main event champion Darren ‘darrenelias’ Elias, who was looking for his first bracelet. Werrell earned $5,912 as the ninth-place finisher.

Dyer, playing under the screen name ‘helionic’, was the next to hit the rail. He shoved with K-6 suited from the small blind and ran into the pocket jacks of Piccioli in the big blind. The pocket pair held up and Dyer was eliminated in eighth place ($7,725).

Just moments later, Piccioli shoved from the button with K2 into two shorter stacks in the blinds. ‘Aceofspades3’ called with pocket queens and flopped top set, but Piccioli picked up a straight draw which he promptly made on the turn. The board did not pair on the river and ‘Aceofspades3’ was knocked out in seventh place ($10,228). Piccioli took more than a 2:1 lead on the next-largest stack after that hand.

Elias sent short stack Matthew ‘peepeepoopoo’ Paoletti home in sixth place ($13,723) before finding himself at risk. Elias three-bet shoved all-in for 13 big blinds with KQ and initial raiser Piccioli called with AK. Both made a pair of kinds on the river, but Elias’ kicker was second best. He earned $18,729 as the fifth-place finisher.

Ye ‘yuan365’ Yuan’s run in this event came to a screeching halt when his Q8 collided with the AA of Daniel ‘spleen’ Fellner. The aces held up and Yuan was eliminated in fourth place ($25,893).

Fellner followed Yuan to the virtual rail despite earning that knockout. He was virtually tied for the lead at one point during three-handed action, but lost an all-in to Dan ‘Feeltheflow’ Sindelar to fall to the bottom of the chip counts. His last hand was AJ, which he shoved from the small blind. Piccioli called with KK from the big blind and made top set by the river. Fellner was awarded $36,293 for his third-place showing.

Piccioli took a decent lead into heads-up play with Sindelar, but the two switched roles when Piccioli’s A-5 offsuit failed to beat out Sindelar’s pocket jacks. The two battled back to being roughly even before the pivotal pot of the match came down. Sindelar shoved for 16 big blinds effective with 108 from the button and Piccioli called with AK. The board ran out J423Q and Piccioli’s ace-king high was enough to secure the massive pot for the majority of the chips in play. Sindelar was left with just a few big blinds and was eliminated soon after, earning $51,527 as the runner-up.
