Gionni Demers Wins His First Bracelet In 2021 World Series of Poker Online $500 No-Limit Hold’em Event

The fourteenth gold bracelet event of the 2021 World Series of Poker Online is officially in the books. The $500 buy-in no-limit hold’em event drew a field of 1,036 total entries to create a $466,200 prize pool. When the dust settled, Gionni Demers was the last player standing. The New Jersey resident earned his first bracelet and the top prize of $90,023 for the win.

This was the second-largest score of Demer’s tournament career, behind the $302,005 he took home as the 20th-place finisher in the 2011 WSOP main event. He now has career earnings of $625,608.

Plenty of big names made deep runs in this event, including 15-time bracelet winner Phil ‘Lumestackin’ Hellmuth (73rd – $1,072), two-time bracelet winner Eric ‘Circleball’ Baldwin (48th – $1,772), four-time bracelet winner Jeff ‘NedrudRelyt’ Madsen (34th – $2,098), three-time bracelet winner Joe ‘IhateChadE’ Mckeehen (26th – $2,564), and bracelet winner Arkadiy ‘Crocofantos’ Tsinis (17th – $3,124).

Demers entered the final table in third chip position. He added to his stack early by eliminating bracelet winner Ethan ‘Rampunts’ Yau, besting his aces and a queen kicker with two pair, aces and eights. Yau earned $6,387 as the ninth-place finisher. Daniel ‘TheDinosaur’ Marder was the next to fall, running A-5 into A-J and failing to come from behind. He took home $8,345 for his eighth-place showing.

Two-time bracelet winner Shankar ‘Burgersssss’ Pillai saw his run for a third WSOP title come to an end when his A-Q lost a preflop race against the pocket nines of Philip ‘tszis’ Shing. Pillai earned $11,049 as the seventh-place finisher.

Demers secured his second knockout of the final table with pocket aces, which held up against the K5 of Pierce ‘Victoria53’ Mckellar to send him packing in sixth place ($14,825).

Bracelet winner and 2004 WSOP main event runner-up finisher David ‘dwpoker’ Williams earned his first elimination at the final table when his top pair, top kicker held up against the straight and flush draws of Jonas ‘puffin_nails’ Wexler (5th – $20,233).

Philip ‘tszis’ Shing finished sixth in the Wynn Millions $10,000 buy-in event in early July for $360,140. He got his last chips in ahead in this event, but his A-3 was unable to outrun the K-Q of Demers and Shing was sent to the rail with $27,972 for his fourth-place finish.

Samantha ‘femme_fatale’ Lake got all-in with KQ facing the A7 of Demers. Lake hit top pair of queens to overtake the lead in the hand from Demers, who had paired his seven on the flop. The river brought another seven, though, giving Demers trips and eliminating Lake in third place ($39,207).

Demers took more than a 3:1 chip lead into heads-up play with Williams. Their showdown didn’t last long. In the final hand, Demers limped from the button for 200,000 with 77. David “dwpoker” Williams moved all-in for 3,768,098 from the big blind with 44. Demers called to put Williams at risk and the board ran out Q63210. Demers’ superior pocket pair held up to earn him the title and the bracelet, while Williams was awarded $55,664 as the runner-up finisher.
