Artur Martirosian Wins Super High Roller Bowl Europe $100,000 Buy-In No-Limit Hold'em Event

Russian high stakes cash game and tournament player Artur Martirosian defeated tournament superstar David Peters heads-up to take down the 2021 Super High Roller Bowl Europe $100,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em event. Martirosian took home $1,400,000 as the champion, the largest recorded payday of his career. The score increased his career tournament earnings to more than $3.4 million.

This was Martirosian’s third title of the year, having taken down the European Poker Tour Sochi main event and a World Poker Tour Russia side event earlier in 2021. Martirosian earned 480 Card Player Player of the Year points for his latest victory. With six POY-qualified final table finishes for $1,953,598 so far this year, he has shot up the rankings and into 26th place in the 2021 POY race, sponsored by Global Poker.

Martirosian earned 400 PokerGO Tour rankings points as the champion of this event. This was his second score to qualify for this race, and it moved him into 32nd place on the leaderboard.

The final day began with Martirosian leading the remaining 7 players from a starting field of 35 entries. Only the top five finishers would cash, which meant that two players would be eliminated before the six-figure money bubble burst. Chi Zhang was the first to go, with his A-Q losing a preflop race to the pocket tens of Martirosian. Chris Brewer was the unfortunate player to be knocked out on the direct bubble, with his A-K losing to the 93 of Martirosian, who three-bet all-in over the top of Brewer’s open. Both players flopped a pair, but Martirosian improved to two pair on the river to burst the bubble.

Viacheslav Buldygin got the last of his short stack in preflop with Q5 when it folded to him in the small blind. Martirosian called with KJ and flopped a king to jump way out in front. He held from there and Buldygin was eliminated in fifth place ($240,000).

Martirosian held an absolutely massive chip lead heading into four-handed action, with more than five million in his stack while no other player had over a million to start. Selahaddin Bedir was the next to hit the rail. His A6 couldn’t beat out the KJ of David Peters, who flopped straight draw and turned top pair. Bedir earned $385,000 for his third final-table finish in a four-day span. Bedir placed second in the $25,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em high roller, then won the $50,000 high roller two days later. He has cashed for nearly $1.6 million so far this series.

A classic preflop race determined the next knockout, with Johan Guilbert’s AQ squaring off against the JJ of Martirosian. The pocket pair remained ahead through the river and Guilbert finished third for $560,000. This was the largest score of his career, topping the $506,250 he secured as the champion of the $25,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em event held earlier this week.

Heads-up play began with Martirosian holding 6,200,000 to David Peters’ 820,000. The three-time World Series of Poker bracelet and Card Player Player of the Year award winner managed to secure several early double-ups to quickly close the gap and then overtake the lead. The two traded the advantage back and forth, but Martirosian was ultimately ahead when the final hand was dealt. Martirosian shoved with the A4. Peters called with 77 and the board ran out A6398. Martirosian’s pair of aces was enough to lock up the pot and the title. Peters earned $910,000 as the runner-up finisher. The score increased his career earnings to $37,659,601. He now sits in sixth place on poker’s all-time money list, and is just a few hundred thousand away from joining the top five.
