Brock Wilson emerged victorious from a field of 73 entries in the fourth event of the 2021 Poker Masters high roller series. The 26-year-old poker pro earned $189,800 as the champion of the $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament, increasing his career tournament earnings to more than $3.7 million in the process.

This win came just three days after Wilson finished fourth in the kickoff event of the series for $82,000. Wilson earned 190 Poker Masters rankings points for his latest victory. When combined with the 82 from his earlier score, Wilson’s total of 272 rankings points is enough to move him into the lead in the race for the Poker Masters Championship. The eventual winner of the player of the series race will be awarded the Purple Jacket® and $50,000 in added prize money.

Wilson also earned 420 Card Player Player of the Year points for coming out on top in this tournament. This was his ninth POY-qualified final-table finish of the year, with $1,179,848 in POY earnings won along the way. The upshot of all that is that Wilson has climbed into 20th place in the 2021 POY race standings, which are sponsored by Global Poker. Wilson also earned 190 PokerGO Tour rankings points. With 956 total points to his name, Wilson now occupies the 14th-place spot on that leaderboard.

The final day of this event began with 2021 World Poker Tour Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown main event winner Brek Schutten in the lead. Two-time bracelet winner Nick Petrangelo was the first to fall when his pocket queens ran into the flopped set of deuces held by WPT Venetian main event winner Chad Eveslage.

Sam Soverel got the last of his stack in with two pair on the turn facing an overpair of aces for Wilson. The river brought another ace to give Wilson a winning set. Soverel earned $58,400 for his 15th final table of the year. The rankings points he earned for his latest deep run moved him into eighth place in the POY race and third in the POkerGO Tour standings.

Eveslage’s run in this event came to an end when his QClub SuitJClub Suit, shoved from the small blind, failed to outrun the ADiamond Suit8Spade Suit of Wilson called from the big blind. Eveslage picked up a flush draw on the turn, but failed to hit any of his many outs on the river and finished fourth for $73,000. This was his fifth final-table finish of the year, with three big titles won along the way. He remains the third-ranked contender in the 2021 POY race.

Schutten started out in the lead among the final three but lost a large pot against Elio Fox to fall to the bottom of the counts. Schutten eventually got all-in with ADiamond Suit7Spade Suit leading the KHeart SuitQDiamond Suit of Fox. A king-high flop gave Fox a lead which he never relinquished, and Schutten was knocked out in third place ($94,900). This was his second final-table finish of the year, and was enough to move him into 37th place in the POY standings.

Fox took a healthy lead into heads-up action with Wilson, but the roles were soon reversed when Wilson picked off a big bluff to double up. He held roughly a 5:4 lead when the final hand of the tournament was dealt. Fox limped in from the button with 8Club Suit5Diamond Suit and Wilson checked his option holding 8Spade Suit7Club Suit in the big blind. The flop came down KDiamond Suit10Diamond Suit8Diamond Suit, giving both players bottom pair. Action checked through and the 8Heart Suit on the turn gave both players trips. Wilson checked and Fox bet 175,000. Wilson check-raised to 600,000. Fox called and the 7Heart Suit on the river gave Wilson a winning full house. Wilson moved all-in, sending Fox deep into the tank. He eventually made the call with his trip eights, only to be shown Wilson’s full house. Fox earned $138,700 as the runner-up, increasing his career earnings to more than $10.7 million.
