Maxx Coleman Wins Poker Masters $10,000 Eight-Game Mix Event

Maxx Coleman made three final tables during the 2021 U.S. Poker Open, earning $230,800 across those three scores. He finished inside the top five in each of those events, including a runner-up showing in the $10,000 pot-limit Omaha event. The fourth time at a PokerGO Tour final table was the charm for Coleman, as he emerged victorious in the Poker Masters $10,000 buy-in eight-game mix event on Sept. 13, defeating a field of 30 total entries to earn $120,000 and his first tournament title of the year.

“It feels good,” Coleman told PokerGo reporters. “This is I think my fourth final table in five events [held at the PokerGO Studio in 2021], so to finally get the win feels pretty good.”

The score increased Coleman’s career tournament earnings to more than $2 million. His largest payday came when he took down the 2015 River Poker Series main event for $775,000.

Coleman came into the final day as the chip leader with five players remaining. Jeremy Ausmus entered the final table as the shortest stack. His chips dwindled even more before he eventually got all-in preflop in pot-limit Omaha. His collection of high cards was unable to outrun the pocket nines and pocket fives of Coleman and Ausmus was eliminated in fifth place ($21,000).

High-stakes cash game regular Erik Sagstrom was the next to fall. He got all-in playing PLO, with a low wrap straight draw facing the trip queens of Stephen Chidwick. Some of Sagstrom’s outs were no good, as they would give Chidwick a full house while filling his straight. The river was of no help and Sagstrom hit the rail with $33,000.

Chidwick was the shortest stack heading into three-handed action despite eliminating Sagstrom. He got all-in preflop playing no-limit hold’em, with his A10 in rough shape against the AJ of Coleman. The flop gave Coleman aces and jacks, and Chidwick was drawing dead after the turn. The World Series of Poker bracelet winner and high-stakes tournament star earned $48,000 for his third-place showing. He now has more than $36.4 million in career earnings to his name.

Coleman took roughly a 3:1 chip lead into heads-up play with Chad Eveslage. A champion wasn’t decided for roughly 90 minutes, but Coleman was eventually able to convert his lead into the title. In the final hand, Eveslage got all-in with a jack low on fifth street in razz. Coleman held a Q-8-3-2-A. Both players ended up improving to nine lows, but Coleman’s 9-8-3-2-A was the winner.

Eveslage earned $78,000 as the runner-up finisher and 200 Card Player Player of the Year points as the runner-up. Eveslage has now made six final tables this year, with three titles won including the World Poker Tour Venetian main event. As a result, he now sits in third place in the 2021 POY race, which is sponsored by Global Poker. Eveslage also earned 78 PokerGO Tour rankings points for his latest deep run. He currently sits in 22nd place on that leaderboard.
