Lawmakers in Southern Nevada gave a casino company the go-ahead to break ground on a new hotel- casino in Las Vegas.
According to a report from the Associated Press, the Clark County Commission gave Station Casinos the approval to start construction early next year on a new casino in the southwest area of the city. It will be called “Durango, a Station Casinos Resorts” and located off the Durango Dr. exit of the I-215, a freeway that encompasses the outskirts of the city limits.
It’s planned location will be about a 15-minute drive from the Las Vegas Strip. Like most of the Station Casinos properties, it will cater to the local Las Vegas gambling market. It’s expected to open in late 2022.
Red Rock Resorts is the parent company for Station Casinos and it already operates 11 properties in the city. Its portfolio of Sin City casinos includes Palms, which is located just off the strip across from the Rio, Red Rock Resort in Summerlin and Green Valley Ranch in Henderson.
Several of the company’s casinos, including Fiesta Henderson, Texas Station and Fiesta Rancho have not reopened since the statewide gaming shutdown in March 2020.
Plans for the Durango property include a 216-foot-tall hotel that will have a pool with an event lawn, a convention center, and a casino that will have four onsite restaurants, bars and a sportsbook.
There was no announcement for the casino to have a poker room. Of all the company’s current Las Vegas properties, only Red Rock, Santa Fe Station and Boulder Station are currently operating a poker room.
The company is planning on adding a second hotel tower, a theater-entertainment space, and additional gaming floor space once the Durango property opens.
