The second season of the PokerGO Tour is going to conclude with a unique winner-take-all showdown with the last player standing set to earn a $500,000 payday. The PGT Championship will see the top 21 ranked players in the tour’s ranking points race at the end of the season battle it out with a unique twist: players will begin the event with their starting stacks being based on their leaderboard points that they earned throughout the season.

“The PGT is the battleground for the most elite poker players in the world, and it is only right that we honor the best of the best in an extraordinary fashion,” said Mori Eskandani, President of PokerGO® in a press release about the new event. “We are proud to award the 2022 PGT season champion with a $500,000 prize as we continue to celebrate the most talented players our game has to offer.”

The event will start with three seven-handed tables, with the official final table that will be broadcast on PokerGO.com set to be a six-handed affair. The official PGT website currently lists Dec. 20 as the start date for the two-day event.

There have already been 22 events so far this year that count toward the PGT points race. Nick Petrangelo is currently sitting atop the leaderboard, with three titles, four cashes, and more than $2.1 million in year-to-date earnings. Ali Imsirovic, who won both the PGT and Card Player Player of the Year races in 2021, is currently in third place in the standings. He won 14 titles and cashed for more than $6 million during the inaugural season.

The current schedule lists another 94 qualifying events remaining before the PGT Championship gets underway. That number is, of course, subject to change as the year continues. The next high-stakes events on the agenda are a trio of high rollers at the Wynn Millions series from Mar. 6-8. The 12-event U.S. Poker Open will then kick off on Mar. 16.
