Maryland’s six Las Vegas-style casinos combined to generate $162.96 million in gaming revenue during February 2022, according to figures released by the state.
The total was an increase of $36.75 million (29.1%) compared to February 2021, when the casinos were operating under capacity restrictions due to the pandemic.
Casino gaming tax contributions to the state in February 2022 were $68.23 million, an increase of $15.04 million (26.4%) compared to February 2021.
Maryland casinos, like their counterparts around the country, continue to recover from the COVID-19 shutdown. The casinos won a record $1.922 billion in 2021, up 56.8% compared to the revenues during virus-stricken 2020.
Maryland played a role in a banner calendar year for U.S. commercial casinos.
Last year was a record-breaking one for the nationwide casino industry. According to the American Gaming Association, 2021 set a new record as the highest-grossing year ever for the U.S. commercial gaming industry, reaching $53 billion in revenue.
