The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and the PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship are officially back.
PokerStars announced the return of two of their most popular live tournament offerings in a press release sent out on Friday, Apr. 8. The PCA and PSPC will be held at a new venue, the Baha Mar resort in Nassau, Bahamas in January of 2023.
“We have missed our live events as much as our players, so it is our true pleasure to announce the PokerStars Players Championship will take place at Baha Mar in January," said PokerStars Managing Director & Commercial Officer Severin Rasset in the release. "Beautiful location, hundreds of qualifiers, with millions to win. If there is one tournament to choose for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, it will be the PSPC. We will provide more details soon on how to get your hands on a Platinum Pass – stay tuned!”
The PCA was previously held at the Atlantis Casino and Resort in the Bahamas from 2005 through 2019. This year it will make its debut at the nearby Baha Mar, running from Jan. 22 – Feb. 3. Chino Rheem won the most recent PCA main event, topping a field of 865 entries to win more than $1.5 million. Other notable champions of the PCA include Gus Hansen (2004 – $455,780), Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier (2008 – $2,000,000), Poorya Nazari (2009 0 $3,000,000), Galen Hall (2011 – $2,300,000), Dimitar Danchev (2013 – $1,859,000), Michael Watson (2016 – $728,325), Christian harder (2017 – $429,664), and Maria Lampropulous (2018 – $1,081,100).
The lone running of the PSPC was held alongside the most recent PCA. The $25,000 buy-in tournament set the record as the largest tournament ever at that price point, with a massive field of 1,039 entries. A total of $9 million was contributed to the prize pool which eventually grew to more than $26.4 million, most of which came in the form of free $25,000 seats into the event that were awarded to players by PokerStars in the lead-up to the event. One of those ‘Platinum Pass’ winners was Spain’s Ramon Collilas, who turned his free seat into a $5,100,000 payday.
The second running of the event was scheduled to take place at the European Poker Tour Barcelona stop in 2020, but both that year’s PSPC and the whole tour stop were ultimately postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, a little more than four years after the initial PSPC was held, the second coming of the event is set to take place from Jan. 30 – Feb. 3.
PokerStars’ release also included info about upcoming EPT Barcelona and EPT Prague stops. The former will take place at the Casino Barcelona later this year from Aug. 8–21, while the latter will return King’s Casino Prague from Dec. 7-18.
PokerStars regional tours also had updates to their coming plans. UK and Ireland Poker Tour Dublin is now expected to run May 16-22 at the Bonnington Hotel. PokerStars is also sponsoring a Summer Poker Festival in Malta from June 18-26 which will feature a joint UKIPT and Estrella Poker Tour main event.
