The $3,500 buy-in championship event at the Wynn Summer Classic had no problem clearing it’s $3.5 million guarantee, drawing a field of 1,428 and building a prize pool worth $4,605,300.
The five-day tournament had three starting flights over the weekend at the Wynn Las Vegas, with the final table wrapping up Tuesday evening. After a long battle of 15 hours on the final day, Jinho Hong came away with the victory, along with $696,011.
“I feel great,” Hong said. “I have been to Las Vegas three times and this is the time I actually got some results.”
Despite the long day on the felt, the former professional gamer stayed locked in all throughout his time in the tournament.
“I think it definitely helped being a pro gamer because it requires a lot of multi-tasking,” he told PokerNews reporters.
Hong overcame a 2:1 heads-up deficit against Andrew Moreno to claim the title. Moreno was looking for his second major win at the Wynn, having banked $1.46 million in last year’s Wynn Summer Classic. This time he settled for a $460,529 payday.
Moreno has three final tables so far in 2022, including a win at Venetian in February worth $242,293. With 2,530 POY points, he sits in 26th place in Card Player’s Player of the Year race.
The final table also featured WSOP bracelet winner Ankush Mandavia, who took fourth, WPT champion James Romero, who finished sixth, and WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Smiljkovic, who busted in eighth. Other notables who made a deep run included Michael Rossitto (22nd), Bin Weng (26th), Boris Kolev (27th), Daniel Hachem (29th), Adedapo Ajayi (31st), Brek Schutten (33rd), Anton Wigg (39th), Thomas Muehloecker (40th), and Nadya Magnus (48th).
The Wynn Summer Classic series will continue until July 18.
