Romans Voitovs Scores Another World Series Of Poker Bracelet Win For LatviaOnline Player Takes Down Live $600 Hold'em/Omaha Mix Event |
|
The $600 buy-in no-limit hold’em and pot-limit Omaha mixed event drew a field of 2,107. The field was more than 500 players larger than in 2021, creating a huge prize pool of $1,074,570.
Despite all the players, the tournament took just two days to play out, capped off by a speedy final table where Latvia’s Romans Voitovs was left with all of the chips.
Voitovs came into the second day of play in 16th place out of the remaining 76, and rode a wave of cards to the title.
“It seemed way too easy,” Voitovs told WSOP reporters. “It was almost like a dream. Usually, it never happens like that. I scored something like four knockouts in 10 hands, every decision was easy. It was really the dream of every poker player. I was down to 10 blinds at some point before the final table redraw and within 10 minutes I became the chip leader. I won all the all ins and it became super easy from there because people get scared to play against the biggest stack.”
His fortune continued into heads-up play, where he cracked runner-up Michael Dobbs’ pocket aces to scoop the final pot of the tournament. Along with the bracelet, he pocketed a career-high $158,609.
This is Latvia’s third ever bracelet. The other two belong to high-stakes pro Aleksejs Ponakovs, who earlier this summer beat Phil Ivey heads-up in the $100,000 WSOP high roller for a $1.9 million payday.
Notables who made deep runs included Richard Bai (5th), Dan Zack (12th), David Larson (14th), Nipun Java (22nd), and John Dollinger (28th).
