Some sports bettors have lost control.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced Wednesday that it took action to ban eight adults from all casinos in the state for leaving a total of 16 children unattended in order to gamble.

Several of the incidents included sports bettors. Pennsylvania has been one of the top states in the country in terms of sports betting handle since 2018. More than $15 billion has been bet inside the state, according to official figures. Gamblers have lost around $1 billion to Pennsylvania-sanctioned sportsbooks over the past four years.

“The Board’s actions regarding adults who chose to enter a casino while leaving children under their care unattended serves as a reminder that adults are prohibited from leaving minors unattended in the parking lot or garage, a hotel, or other venues at a casino since it creates a potentially unsafe and dangerous environment for the children,” regulators said. “Leaving minors unattended at a Pennsylvania casino subjects the offending adult to criminal prosecution and exclusion from all Pennsylvania casinos.”

To ban individuals from entering any casino in the state, regulators have to put the person on what is called the Involuntary Exclusion list. It is possible to get removed from the list, but any person would have to convince the PGCB that their situation has changed.

According to the PGCB, these were the recent sports betting incidents:

  • A male patron was placed on the Involuntary Exclusion List after leaving a two-year-old child unattended in a vehicle in the Presque Isle Downs & Casino parking lot. The child was alone for 32 minutes while the adult wagered in the sportsbook.
  • A male patron was placed on the Involuntary Exclusion List after leaving a 12-year-old child unattended in a vehicle in the Valley Forge Casino Resort parking lot. The child was unaccompanied for 8 minutes while the adult wagered in the sportsbook.
  • A male patron was placed on the Involuntary Exclusion List after leaving an eight-year-old child unattended in his taxi service vehicle in the bus lobby parking area of Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. The child was alone for 20 minutes while the adult wagered in the sportsbook.
