22 Players Move On From Day 1B Of Card Player Poker Tour Venetian Main Event

After 108 entries on day 1A, day 1B of the $500,000 guaranteed Card Player Poker Tour event at the Venetian drew 173, bringing the total field size to 281 with one more starting flight still to go.

The $1,600 buy-in tournament, which is part of the ongoing DeepStack Extravaganza poker festival on the Las Vegas Strip, is structured so 12.5% of each starting flight makes the money.

That meant that 22 players would advance to day 2, guaranteed at least a min-cash for surviving the second starting day.

Each player started the tournament with 40,000 stacks, and blind levels were set to 40 minutes. Additionally, those who registered before the start of level 2 were given a discount on their tournament fees. Players could rebuy, however, until the start of level 13.

Leading the 22 surviving day 1B players is Cody Wiegmann, who bagged up 688,000. Not only does that lead day 1B, but it is also more than the 590,000 that Craig Mason accumulated on day 1A.

The top five was rounded out by Khao Nguyen (545,000), bracelet winners Ryan Laplante (501,000) and Jared Jaffee (481,000), and Dorian Rios (454,000). Other notables include Mike Holtz, Pierce McKellar, Jeff Madsen, Matt McEwan, Darren Rabinowitz, John Strezmp, and Ryan Stoker.

Tournament play continues Saturday at 11:10 a.m. with day 1C. Once again, players who enter before level 2 will receive a rebate on their tournament rake.

Those who want to win their seat at a discount can do so with a a $200 turbo satellite on Saturday at 10:10 a.m.
