Alex Petrosian won the Los Angeles Poker Classic main event on Mar. 3 at the Commerce Casino in Southern California. The resident of Fountain Valley, California defeated a field of talented poker players to take home the top prize worth $401,650 along with the classic Remington Trophy. This was the largest score of his poker career, and his first tournament win.

He defeated poker professional Danny Wong in the heads-up final, and Wong was awarded $267,780 as the runner-up. Wong’s career earnings now stand at $4,712,399, and this was the 13th six-figure cash for the consistent tournament pro.

Petrosian held the chip lead with 6.33 million at the start of heads-up play against the 2,745,000 that sat in front of Wong. The final match took a little over an hour-and-a-half to decide a champion. Wong survived one shove when his pocket threes didn’t play against Petrosian’s pocket fives on a board dealt Q-J-J-A-Q. The two players pulled back their chips thanks to two pair, queens and jacks on the board so play continued.

On the last hand of play, Petrosian saw his 10Heart Suit8Diamond Suit connect on a final board reading QClub Suit8Spade Suit3Diamond Suit10Club Suit9Heart Suit, and that was enough to take Wong out of the tournament.

The $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament had a prize pool worth $1,683,300 thanks to a total field size of 181 entries. The top 23 players all cashed for at least $16,000 in prize money.

A few other notables with deep runs in the star-studded event included Phuoc Nguyen (11th), Paul Richardson (13th), Jason Hickey (17th), Anthony Spinella (20th), Nick Schulman (21st), and Alexander Greenblatt (22nd).
