Buried in the news by the ongoing heads-up feud between Matt Berkey and Nikhil Arcot, two other pros got together for a much friendlier high-stakes match, although this one took place on the tennis court.

It was an old-school throwback prop bet between Dan Smith, who is eighth on the all-time money list with more than $41 million in career tournament earnings, and World Poker Tour champion Markus Gonsalves, who is fresh off a $585,000 win in the PokerGO studio during the No Gamble, No Future million-dollar cash game.

The two pros met at a Las Vegas tennis court last week for a one-set match, only Gonsalves, who is the better player, would be forced to play holding a frying pan instead of a racket. The two had previously played before, with Gonsalves winning by only using his left hand.

Despite the equipment disadvantage, Gonsalves once again came away with the victory, beating Smith 6-2. The only modifications he made to the frying pan was to apply some grip tape to the handle.

Smith teased the possibility of a rematch a month from now, prompting Gonzalves to joke that perhaps he would try to play with a baseball bat next time.

Gonzalves continued to gloat the next day, tagging Smith a tweet showing him making eggs with his make-shift “racket.”

Smith shook off the loss quickly, however, winning the $25,000 buy-in high roller at the U.S. Poker Open just a few days later for $400,000. He then finished fifth in the $50,000 event for another $150,000.
