Great Canadian Entertainment announced that the brand-new gaming floor and multiple dining venues opened to the public on Tuesday at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto.

Adjacent to the existing Woodbine Racetrack, the new property is the “newest and largest casino resort in Canada,” the company said.

There is now 328,000 square feet of gaming space, with 4,800 slot machines, 145 live table games, VIP rooms, and sports betting kiosks.

The casino, situated on 33 acres, will soon open a new hotel. The company decided to open part of the resort before other amenities are finished.

Later this summer, the property will debut the 400-room hotel. A wellness center featuring an indoor pool, sauna and steam room will open later this year. In addition, a 5,000-seat entertainment venue is also in the works.

The casino also said it had invested $5 million in new artwork.

The resort is “creating a significant economic impact,” the company said, with an investment of approximately $1 billion and an estimated $500 million in economic benefit for Ontario. Nearly 2,000 team members will be employed at the property, “contributing to job growth and prosperity in the region.”

The City of Toronto has received more than $357 million as its share of gaming revenue since the introduction of the casino at Woodbine Racetrack.

“We are thrilled to finally unveil Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto,” said Matthew Anfinson, Chief Executive Officer for Great Canadian Entertainment. “Our team has worked tirelessly for several years to create an unrivaled entertainment experience that will leave a lasting impression on our guests. The opening of this first phase of Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto is exciting for all of us, and we are very eager to reveal the next phases, including the hotel and The Theatre, in the coming weeks and months.”

Great Canadian Entertainment said it partnered with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation to promote responsible gambling.
