Fresh on the heels of a record-breaking summer in Las Vegas, the World Series of Poker has announced a new tournament series in the Bahamas that will run from Dec. 3-14 in partnership with GGPoker. WSOP Paradise will have 15 gold bracelets up for grabs at Atlantis Paradise Island. This adds to the record number of ways that poker players can win a gold bracelet these days, whether at the WSOP in Las Vegas during the summer, WSOP Europe, and multiple online series both internationally and in certain states.
“The summer was an unprecedented success, but the vision is equally as ambitious for WSOP Paradise,” said Ty Stewart, SVP & Executive Director of the WSOP. “We have the strongest online partner in the world, and they are set to send a record number of qualifiers to a live tournament. Atlantis also has a great legacy in poker, and we believe this combination of partners can deliver poker’s most powerful new franchise for years to come. Many players say summer in Vegas is the best time of year. We hope that will only be rivaled by winter in paradise.”
WSOP Paradise features a total of 15 bracelet events, with $50 million in guaranteed prize pools. The $5,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event alone has a guaranteed prize pool worth $15 million.
Other highlights include a $1,500 mystery bounty tournament with a $5 million guaranteed prize pool, and for high rollers there is a $100,000 buy-in event with another $5 million guarantee, and a $50,000 buy-in event with a $2 million guarantee. There will also be multiple pot-limit Omaha events with seven-figure guarantees.
GGPoker sent 774 players to this year’s record-breaking WSOP main event in Las Vegas, and they have pledged to send at least 1,000 players to WSOP Paradise. The series will play host to a signature $25,000 buy-in GGMillion$ event with a $10 million guarantee.
“GGPoker is delighted to launch WSOP Paradise and welcome hundreds of players from all over the world to Atlantis Paradise Island this December,” said Daniel Negreanu, GGPoker Global Ambassador. “It’s going to be an absolutely amazing experience, the best of poker at one of the world’s most luxurious resorts!”
The tournament series comes at a good time with the world-class property in the Bahamas completing many renovations and upgrades.
“Atlantis’ 25th anniversary launches a new chapter for the resort, unveiling a multimillion-dollar transformation of the Atlantis Casino complemented by renovated guestrooms at The Royal and Michelin star chef dining experiences in time for the WSOP Paradise event. We are excited to welcome the WSOP Paradise this winter and look forward to hosting the debut of this premiere tournament series for players and their fans,” said Joe Brunini, Chief Gaming & Customer Development Officer Atlantis Paradise Island, the Bahamas.
The Atlantis is no stranger to hosting some of the largest poker tournament series each year. The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure had been a mainstay for years in the Bahamas, and the World Poker Tour also had featured it as a stop on previous seasons.
Speaking of the WPT, their WPT World Championship tournament series runs from Nov. 29 to Dec. 23 at Wynn Las Vegas, going head to head with the WSOP Bahamas series at the same time. It will be interesting to see if players flock to Las Vegas or the Bahamas this winter.
